Looking for some good post-apocalyptic books to get you through that long weekend? Well, we’ve rounded up some popular apocalyptic books that you might be interested in putting on your Kindle. Some are also available in paperback if you prefer to do your reading on the beach.
Part of a series, Paul Antony Jones’ Extinction Point is one of my personal favorites when it comes to apocalypse books. Sure, it is not without it’s problems (namely that it just kind of ends without resolution and you have to move on to the next book in the series), but I found it to be a very exciting read.
This one is set in New York City and the author captures it perfectly. You get a female lead and an alien invasion with this novel. Book four of the series is set for release in September 2015.
Check out this and the rest of Paul Antony Jones’ books on Amazon. You can also find the author on Twitter.
A lot of post apocalyptic books focus on what is left of society well after the actual apocalypse happened. Not this one.
Instead, you get to follow one guy’s journey on navigating a new world just moments after the apocalyptic event that has changed everything in Lee Goldberg’s The Walk. Definitely an exciting read.
A New World: Chaos
Do you like your apocalypse scenarios with a side of zombies? What about an ex-military guy for the main character? Though it might seem like a bit of an unlikely combo in a book, it actually works well in author John O’Brien’s A New World: Chaos novel.
This is book one in a series, which has a lot of other books for you to check out once you finish this one.
The Strain (The Strain Trilogy Book 1)
It’s rare that you find vampires in a post-apocalyptic book other than I Am Legend, but that is exactly what you get with The Strain.
Released back in 2009, it’s safe to say that most fans of this genre have already read the book, but if not, it is definitely something worth checking out – even if you don’t normally like vampires. And even better, this is book one of a series, so you’re left with more books to read in this world.
You can find the book series here on Amazon.
Hugh Howey’s Wool was actually the very first book I read with a post-apocalypse setting.
If you haven’t read this one, then you can actually get the Omnibus edition that gives you all three parts. Just be warned that you will not be able to put this one down.
Though known more for his works of bone-chilling horror, Stephen King’s The Stand takes place in a world of survivors putting the pieces back together.
In all likelihood, this book has already been devoured by fans of the genre. Or, at a minimum, consumed via the movie format. In all honestly, I am a bit ashamed to reveal that I’ve watched but never read this one. But, I plan on changing that and if you have not read this classic, then I definitely suggest that you move it up to the top of your TBR list, too.
The Atlantis Gene: A Thriller (The Origin Mystery, Book 1) (Atlantis Trilogy)
One of the more unique apocalypse style tales can be found in A.G. Riddle’s The Atlantis Gene novel.
Book one of a series, you can stay immersed in this world for two more books once you finish devouring this one. Even better, you can read it for FREE if you have a subscription to Kindle Unlimited.
Whatcha waiting for? Head on over to Amazon now and get started on this novel. And you can keep track of upcoming releases by following the author on Twitter.
Extinction Horizon (The Extinction Cycle Book 1)
Another military-guy focused apocalypse book is what you get with Nicholas Sansbury Smith’s Extinction Horizon.
This is the first book in a series, with book two already available for purchase and book three set for release in Summer 2015.
This one is fast paced and perfect for readers who are also fans of medical thrillers with a splash of conspiracies.
The Purge of Babylon: A Novel of Survival (Purge of Babylon, Book 1)
If you’re looking for an apocalyptic world with zombies unlike any others you’ve seen, then author Sam Sisavath’s The Purge of Babylon: A Novel of Survival should be added to your TBR list.
Readers who enjoy a series will love that there are already several completed novels in this series. And the best part – if you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited, then you can read this book for free!

Author Edward W. Robertson delivers a plague and aliens all in the same story with his Breakers series. This is one of those things that could be done very poorly or very well. Fortunately, he pulls it off smashingly.
If you’re new to this series, you can get the first three books in a box set – the perfect way to give this series a test drive.
